Desert Homestead Outpost

Opened in 2015, Desert Homestead Outpost quickly established itself as a great alternative to the most famous lodges in Sossusvlei. It literally stands out from the rest, about 20 miles from the entrance to Namib-Naukluft National Park. This solitude helps the lodge showcase the wonders of the desert, without any other vehicle or person interrupting your photos.

Each of the 11 small houses has a modern design, and looks like a cross between a traditional lodge and a modern hotel. There is a bathroom, a shaded terrace, air conditioning, and most modern amenities. Our favorite feature, though, is the private sleeper deck, where visitors can spend the night on a bed under the desert stars. We highly recommend it for at least one of your nights.

Common areas include a swimming pool, and an indoor dining area with a crackling winter fire. This lodge represents an improvement in quality over the older sister property of the lodge, the Desert Homestead Lodge.
