The Chimpanzee Sanctuary of Ngamba Island

The Chimpanzee Sanctuary of Ngamba Island was founded in 1998 on the 40-hectare island of the same name, 23 km south of Entebbe on Lake Victoria. It is a reserve dedicated to wounded or orphaned chimpanzees, collected in the wild or seized from poachers.

A half-day visit of this sanctuary allows the observation of the way that orphan chimpanzees are fed, and visitors benefit from an informative presentation of the staff of the sanctuary.

Visitors also get to spend time watching chimpanzees as they play and interact with each other, and to enjoy the beautiful views of the island, natural wildlife and birdlife.

The Sanctuary is a non-profit organization that is coordinated and managed by the Chimpanzee Sanctuary & Wildlife Conservation Trust. CSWCT is a partnership with six organizations involved in the welfare and conservation of wildlife.
